Dev Blog #7 - New Year, New Updates!

ZEDZ is a third person shooter and tower defense game, with a rpg twist.

A few things we’ve achieved since the last update:

We’ve implemented the movement animations for the grunt enemy and the turret, as well as damage animations. This includes walking, running, attack and shoot animations. We also have a few of the tank animations started. The turrets will now also point at their targets while shooting Zedz to bits, which is exciting!

We have a test level layout set up, though this will have a few tweaks and changes done to it in the coming weeks. We’ve also come up with a bunch of farm related objects that will be scattered around the first level. From barns to barrels, here’s a quick look at a few of the things that will make the farm more, well, farm like!

Navigation space pathing is now integrated. Zedz will now path correctly and move towards their goal (which could be the player or the defense point). There is currently a basic spawning system working, which be be refined into a proper wave system, which will require a lot of game play testing. There is now also a radial menu, which provides easy access to turret and defense building.

COMPLETED:

  • A lot of back end adjustments. Converted libraries etc

  • Nav space integration

  • Walk, run, attack, idle and death animations for the grunt enemy

  • Various animations for all planned turrets, including shooting, reloading and movement for all of the different sections

  • Some tweaks and fixes to the player animations

  • First pass of basic UI. Ammo and currency counters and radial menu

  • More farm models. A few different vehicles, plants and general farm-y clutter

  • Terrain for the farm level

  • Improvements to game menus

  • Created building prefabs

  • Added the ability to upgrade and repair structures
